All types of stonework, traditional and contemporary
Stone is the material North Yorkshire is built from, and it is unusually honest — it shows up every shortcut in the coursing, the bed height and the pointing. We take on stonework as its own discipline: new walling and elevations, quoins, heads and cills, rebuilds, repointing and repair.
Restoration is the part we are proudest of. Taking a stone building that has lost its roof, floors and windows, making the shell safe, rebuilding what is missing in matching stone and putting a home back inside it is the best argument for the trade there is — and it is in our gallery, before and after.
Traditional restoration
Making a failing shell safe, rebuilding lost walling in matching stone, replacing or re-dressing quoins, heads and cills, raking out cement and repointing in an appropriate lime mortar, and reinstating stone-slate or slate roofs. The aim is that the repair disappears and the building simply looks looked-after.
Contemporary stonework and hard landscaping
New stone elevations and feature walling on modern buildings, plus everything around them: terraces and paved seating areas laid to fall, stone steps and copings, retaining walls, planters and boundary walls. Hard landscaping is where a finished house stops looking like a building site.
